Leveraging Drupal to Deliver the University of Calgary's Unit Information System

The Faculties of the University of Calgary have collectively been developing the Unit Information System (UNITIS) for some time.  When the time came to switch from a legacy web deployment to a WCM style web deployment, Drupal framework met the needs of the UNITIS team to deliver the next generation application.

UNITIS provides individual units the ability to manage unit information in a more holistic and relational manner.  Personal profiles are published from UNITIS data for contact information, educational information, courses taught, publications, etc. Enterprise information is seamlessly and automatically delivered in a context appropriate format, e.g. course listings for a department originating from the registrar's data, personnel contact lists originating from human resources.

By integrating with the functionality of Drupal, the web delivery of Unit Information is seamlessly integrated with standard Drupal page content and effortless to maintain. In fact, there are efficiency gains to be found as administrators now keep only one set of information.

In this session, come hear about using Drupal to as a vehicle to deliver integrated web solutions, and learn about what it took to get there: required usability enhancements, web services implementation, mistakes, and more.
