SMS Framework - Any Experts out there?

I've been intrigued by the SMS Framework contrib module for quite some time. Working at a University, where SMS messaging is used far more than email, facebook, and even voice calls - it just makes sense for us to provide SMS services that align with our current web projects.

I've experimented with Clickatell's gateway - but the cost is prohibitive for a University purpose. I hear that Rain City is doing some great work extending the SMS Framework module while developing projects for Vancouver's Mobile MUSE. Anyone else in the Drupal community actively contributing to the development of SMS Framework? I'd LOVE to see a talk about it at DCA08.
